Do you have what it takes to be an Ironworker? Can you answer “YES” to all of the following?
BEING AN IRONWORKER MEANS:
Having a good work ethic
Possessing a positive attitude
Listens and learns on the job and in the classroom
Can work with others as a team to complete the project or task
Follows the directions of the foreman/journeyman regardless of the manner in which they are given
Aptitude and desire for the trade/career
Has some experience doing construction, metal work or comparable work with transferable skills
Has proven to be a good worker with good work history and attendance record and can indicate this even if not related to the trade
The necessary physical condition to work at heights in a physically demanding environment for extended periods of time in all weather conditions as safety allows
Drug free and can pass required drug test annually as required of all members
If you answered “yes” to all of these points then YOU have the potential to be a member of one of the greatest trades, the IRONWORKERS!
WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS?
We generally test in the fall for the following construction season.
To know when and how to apply we do the following:
Advertise 30 days in advance in local papers, employment agencies and various locations in the surrounding area
Take applications for 2 weeks including a Saturday
Issue an aptitude test on a Saturday
Schedule interviews with the JATC which is made up of people you will work with (Labor) and people you will work for (Management)
You will then be placed on an eligibility list based on your cumulative score and receive a letter whether or not you made the cut.

APPLICATIONS FOR LOCAL 498 APPRENTICE PROGRAM
Applications for the Iron Workers Local 498 Apprentice Program are taken when we can identify a need based upon the future work picture. we advertise in area newspapers as well as send information to area organizations including employment offices, community services, churches, and schools. The advertising is done 30 days prior to the actual application process which gives a prospective applicant the time necessary to get the paperwork required to complete the application process. we will also post a notice on this web site when we plan to take applications in the future.
